Just when you thought styrofoam was only good for takeaway coffee cups and instant noodle bowls, the remarkable Miss Death arrives to push the cultural and artistic envelope. Sculptors have traditionally chosen stone and bronze to create their impressive works of art. Miss Death on the other hand has abandoned all artistic convention as she chips away at massive blocks of Styrofoam to reveal the most fantastic creatures - like a four foot Robbie the Robot, the baby from Larry Cohen's Its Alive, the Zuni Fetish Doll from Karen Blacks Trilogy of Terror, bizarre Siamese twins and an equally weird collection of shrunken heads.
But why Styrofoam? That's the question art critics and connoisseurs of the decorative arts are demanding to know. Since then Miss Death has embarked on a seemingly endless odyssey of obsessive Styrofoamia - the toils of her labour (and blade cuts of genius) on display at The MAD Gallery. She is joined by her son Adam Kotevski and his painting talent to introduce his character Tiki Man in a series of watercolour paintings.
Miss Death would like to thank her husband Jay Katz (Jaimie) for his unending support by watering and feeding her during her Styrofoamia madness. her daughter-in-law Bianka for she-knows-what-for and of course her son for driving her mad as always.
A special thanks goes to Narelle for her generosity, love and support and all the other friends at Reverse Garbage and MAD Gallery without whom any of this would not have been possible.
